Adding Pets to Your Genogram

Add a pet as a hexagon, record species and breed, connect it to its owner, and show the adoption date on the line.

Pets are often part of the family story, so GenogramAI lets you add them. A pet is drawn as a hexagon and appears in the Genogram Key as Pet.

Adding a pet

  1. Click Add Person in the toolbar.
  2. Choose Other, then Pet.
  3. In the Inspector, fill in Pet Details: Species (Dog, Cat, Bird, Fish, Rabbit, Hamster, Guinea Pig, Horse, Reptile or Other), Breed and Nickname.

You can also ask the AI Assistant, for example "add the family dog, Max, to Maria".

Connecting a pet to its owner

  1. Click the pet. Its radial menu has a single button, Connect to Owner.
  2. Drag from it to the owner's symbol and let go.

A line between a person and a pet is always a Pet Connection. Pets can't be added as children of a couple.

Adoption date and a label on the line

  1. Click the line between the pet and its owner.
  2. Under Adopted, enter the year (month and day are optional).
  3. Optionally add a Label / Note, for example Family dog or Emotional support.

The line then shows a small label such as adopted 2019 · Family dog. Line colour, Hide and Delete are in the footer at the bottom of the Inspector.

Dates and notes

The pet's Dates section records Status (Alive or Deceased), Born, and, for a pet that has died, Passed and Cause. The Notes section holds anything else, such as temperament or special needs.

Pets cannot be the index person.
