Frequently asked questions
How does GenogramAI's AI generation work?
Describe the family in plain text, including names, dates, relationships, and medical conditions, and the AI builds a complete genogram in seconds. You can then ask the AI for changes one at a time in the chat. On the Professional and Clinical plans you can also upload a photo or scan of a hand-drawn genogram and the AI turns it into an editable chart.
What relationship types does GenogramAI support?
GenogramAI supports 64 relationship types: 18 partnership types (marriage, divorce, cohabitation, engagement, etc.), 39 emotional relationship types (close, conflict, fused, distant, abuse types, etc.), and 7 child connection types (biological, adopted, foster, step, surrogate, sperm donor, egg donor).
What are the view layers in GenogramAI?
The Views menu has 9 layers you can switch on and off: Cultural heritage (fill patterns), Medical (classic or quadrant shading), Social class, Religion, Education, Location, Custom colours, Backgrounds and Households. There is also a Time view with a year slider and a Present mode. Emotional relationship lines are always shown.
Is GenogramAI free to use?
Yes. The free plan includes 2 genograms, 5 AI credits a month (shared with eco-maps), all 64 relationship types, medical quadrants and PNG export, with no card required. Professional ($12/month) adds up to 25 projects, unlimited AI, photo import and PDF/SVG/GEDCOM export; Clinical ($29/month) adds Clinical Mode, zero-knowledge encryption and the Mac desktop app.
Can I import GEDCOM files into GenogramAI?
Yes. GenogramAI imports GEDCOM (.ged) files from family tree software like Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FamilySearch, as well as GenoPro, Gramps, RootsMagic and CSV spreadsheets (Professional and Clinical plans). The imported tree is laid out as a new genogram, and you can add emotional relationships and medical information afterwards.
Does GenogramAI make eco-maps too?
Yes. From the dashboard choose Start New and the Ecomap tab to build an eco-map by hand or from a typed description with AI. AI eco-maps use the same AI credits as genograms. Importing an eco-map from a photo is a Professional and Clinical feature.
Is there a desktop app?
A native macOS desktop app is included with the Clinical plan. A Windows desktop app is coming soon but is not available yet; on Windows, Chromebook and iPad, GenogramAI runs in the browser.
