Clinical Mode: Keep Client Genograms on Your Device
Clinical mode saves genograms only in your browser, encrypted with a key that never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Clinical mode is for sensitive client work. While it's on, genograms are saved only in this browser, encrypted with AES-256 using a key created on your device. Nothing is sent to GenogramAI's servers, and we can't see or recover these files. It's part of the Clinical plan.
Turning it on or off
- In the editor: use the Clinical switch in the bottom-left corner, next to Auto-save
- In Settings: go to the Clinical tab and use the Clinical mode switch. On: files are saved only in this browser. Off: files are saved to your cloud workspace
- Always Start in Clinical Mode (same tab) turns it on automatically each time you open GenogramAI
On a Clinical plan account, Clinical mode starts on by default until you change it.
Switching on with a cloud file open
If you turn Clinical mode on while a cloud genogram is open, you'll be asked to confirm. From then on, edits are saved only on this device; the cloud copy won't receive them until you turn Clinical mode off.
Finding your device-only files
On the Dashboard, open On this device in the sidebar. These files are marked Local. From the same page you can Create in Clinical mode, make a Backup, or Restore one.
AI in Clinical mode
The AI Assistant still works. Before a request is sent, people's names are replaced with placeholders (Person_1, Person_2, and so on), and the answer is mapped back to the real names on your screen. On the Clinical plan, we don't log the content of AI requests.
Keep backups
Because the files exist only in this browser, they're gone if you clear the browser's data, use a private window, or switch computers. Don't use Clinical mode on a shared device. When you leave the editor, GenogramAI offers Download Backup & Leave. Backups are password-protected; see On This Device and Password-Protected Backups.
Prefer a desktop app?
The Clinical plan also includes the Mac and Windows desktop app (Dashboard sidebar → Desktop app). It stores genograms as files on your computer (in ~/Documents/GenogramAI) and works offline.
Not on Clinical yet?
Clicking a Clinical feature opens the upgrade window. If you're on Pro, you'll see a single Unlock Clinical card, and the switch is prorated. See Plans and Pricing.
