Ecomaps in GenogramAI (Beta)
Yes, GenogramAI makes ecomaps. Switch to the Ecomap editor to map energy and resource flow between a family and the systems around it.
Yes — GenogramAI makes ecomaps as well as genograms. An ecomap maps the energy and resource flow between a person or family and the systems around them: work, school, friends, healthcare, faith, extended family, and more. The Ecomap editor is currently in beta, so it is under active development and we would love your feedback. You can open it right from your dashboard.
Opening the Ecomap editor
The ecomap tool lives right next to your genograms. On your dashboard, use the Genogram | Ecomap toggle to switch over to the Ecomap editor. It is a separate editor with its own canvas, legend, and export options, so your ecomaps and genograms stay organized on their own.
- Go to your dashboard
- Flip the Genogram | Ecomap toggle to Ecomap
- Start a new ecomap and add the family or index person in the center, with the surrounding systems around them
Energy-flow arrows
The signature of an ecomap is the connection between the family system and each outside system. In the Ecomap editor these connections carry energy-flow arrows that show which way energy, support, or resources move.
- Arrow toward the family — the system gives energy or resources to the family
- Arrow toward the system — the family sends energy or resources out to that system
- Arrows both ways — a reciprocal, back-and-forth exchange
Point the arrow in whichever direction reflects the relationship you are documenting. A supportive grandparent might flow energy in; a demanding job might draw energy out; a close friendship often flows both ways.
The ecomap legend
Like the genogram key, the ecomap has its own legend that explains the connection styles you are using. The legend is a draggable panel — click and hold anywhere on it and move it to whatever corner keeps it out of your way.
Printing and exporting an ecomap
Ecomaps use the same print and export flow as genograms, so there is nothing new to learn.
- Open the file menu (top left of the editor)
- Choose Print... (or press Cmd+P / Ctrl+P) — Print is free on every plan, and you can pick "Save as PDF" as the destination to make a PDF
- Or choose Export image... for a PNG
To include the legend on the printed or exported file, turn on the Integrated Key toggle in the export dialog. That renders the legend directly onto the output so your ecomap explains itself to anyone who receives it.
What "Beta" means
The Ecomap editor is labeled Beta because it is newer and we are actively developing it. It is ready to use, but you may notice rough edges, and features are still being added and refined. If you have a request or hit a snag, please share it through the Contact Support option in the editor — beta feedback directly shapes what we build next.
