Can't Find the Toolbar or a Button?
Where the toolbar, export button, and key went — and how to get them back.
"Where is the toolbar?" and "I don't see the export button" are two of our most common questions. Here's the map.
The two control areas
- The menu (logo button, top left) — file-level actions: save, load, Export image, Export PDF, Print, GEDCOM, Publish
- The toolbar (bottom center of the editor) — canvas tools: select, add person, shapes, text, views, labels, Family Groups, the Legend toggle
If you're looking for export or print and only see "Share as...", you're in the share menu — export lives in the main menu at the top left instead.
The toolbar seems gone entirely
- Browser zoom — if your browser is zoomed in, top controls can fall outside the window. Press Cmd+0 / Ctrl+0 to reset zoom to 100%
- Small window — on narrow windows some buttons collapse into overflow menus; maximize the window to see the full toolbar
- Dashboard vs. editor — the toolbar only exists inside the editor; open a genogram first
- Mobile — small screens use a mobile toolbar with the most-used tools
A specific button is missing
