Genogram Time View: See a Family in Any Year, Then Present It Step by Step

About this lesson

The time view shows a family as it was in any year. Click the clock button in the toolbar and drag the year slider: ages update to that year and anyone born later fades out. The marks on the slider are years from the family's chronology (births, marriages, deaths). Press play to watch the family grow, and click Today to come back.

Transcript

Want to see a family as it was in an earlier year? Use the time view. Click the clock button in the toolbar, and a year slider appears.

Drag it back. Ages update to that year, and anyone born later fades out. The marks on the slider are years from the family's chronology,

like births, marriages and deaths. Press play to watch the family grow. Click Today to come back to the present.

To walk a client or a class through the chart, open the file menu and choose Present. Present builds the genogram one step at a time: the couple and their children,

then siblings, three generations, health, and relationship lines. Use the arrow keys to move through it, and click Exit when you're done.

The full genogram tutorial builds a four-generation genogram from a blank canvas in under three minutes. For symbols and notation, see the genogram symbols guide, or read how to make a genogram step by step.
